Bachelor courses

(these courses are taught only in Czech)

Biophysics – Biophysics is an interdisciplinary branch of science that can be considered as a bridge between chemistry, physics and biology. Thanks to its multidisciplinarity it offers complex view of the processes taking place in living systems, from the molecular level to the level of whole organisms. The students will understand the basic principles of modern (bio)physical methods, which are currently used in research as well as in application sphere. The graduates have a qualification to work in a wide range of fields, including medicine, criminology, pharmacology, ecology, agriculture, or the food industry. However, many of them also choose to continue in academic career and participate in basic and applied research in physics, chemistry, biology or medicine in the Czech Republic and abroad.

Since the academic year 2012/2013 the students can choose between two specializations – Plant Biophysics and Medicinal Biophysics.

The study supervisor for the bachelor programme in Biophysics is Prof. RNDr. Petr Ilík, Ph.D.

Molecular Biophysics – Molecular Biophysics can be considered as a border between structural and molecular biology on one side and physics on the other. The investigation of living systems requires complex approach and that is why the students will learn the basics of advanced mathematics and physics, but also chemistry and biology. The students will learn the principles of the most important methods used in the study of living systems, which will - together with the obtained knowledge – allow them to understand the molecular principles of processes in living objects. The students specialize either theoretically or experimentally, according to the type of methods they are interested in. The graduates have a qualification to work in a wide range of fields, including medicine, criminology, pharmacology, ecology or the food industry, but they can also continue in the follow-up master study.

The study supervisor for the bachelor programme in Molecular Biophysics is Doc. RNDr. Martin Kubala, Ph.D.
